My Approach to Therapy
My work is grounded in mindfulness and draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and person-centred approaches. In our first session, we'll explore what has brought you to therapy and what you're hoping for. Together, we'll identify obstacles, build on strengths, and develop strategies that fit your unique needs and values.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is one of the approaches I draw from. Rather than trying to get rid of difficult thoughts or emotions, ACT helps us become curious about them. Together, we'll explore what thoughts and feelings are showing up for you, what purpose they may be serving, and how they might be influencing the way you move through your life.
ACT also asks us to get curious about what matters most to you by exploring your values, your relationships, and the kind of person you want to be. From there, we'll work together to find practical, meaningful ways to respond to life's challenges.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is another approach I draw from. DBT focuses on helping us better understand and navigate intense emotions, particularly during times when they may feel overwhelming or difficult to manage. Together, we’ll explore how your emotions affect you, what tends to happen when they become intense, and how you would like to respond to them.
DBT also emphasizes building practical skills for managing difficult emotions, staying grounded during challenging moments, and navigating relationships more effectively. From there, we’ll work together to find skills and strategies that feel meaningful and useful in your everyday life.

Person-centred approaches are guided by your personal and unique goals, needs, and values. This approach can be helpful for those looking to build self-confidence, develop a stronger sense of identity, or feel more trusting of their own decisions. With this style of therapy, my goal is to understand your experience to the best of my abilities, with compassion, curiosity, and no judgement.
Together, we’ll explore what feels important to you and what you would like to work toward, while making space for your experiences, perspectives, and preferences along the way. My role is to support you in understanding yourself more deeply and finding a path forward that feels right for you.
